श्रीभगवानुवाच |

śrībhagavānuvāca .

3.37 The Blessed Lord said It is desire, it is anger both of the ality of Rajas, all-devouring, all-sinful; know this as the foe here (in this world).

Why this verse: Krishna reveals what drives people to sin: lust born of contact with the modes of passion. Desire is not the enemy; uncontrolled desire is.

BG 3.43Bhagavad Gītā

एवं बुद्धेः परं बुद्ध्वा संस्तभ्यात्मानमात्मना |

evaṃ buddheḥ paraṃ buddhvā saṃstabhyātmānamātmanā .

3.43 Thus knowing Him Who is superior to the intellect and restraining the self by the Self, slay thou, O mighty-armed Arjuna, the enemy in the form of desire, hard to coner.

Why this verse: One who controls the self by the self, having slain the enemy in the form of desire, attains the supreme perfection of the self.
